Renault Duster Hybrid Launched in India at Rs 16.99 Lakh

Renault Duster Hybrid

Renault has launched the strong-hybrid version of the new-generation Duster in India at an introductory price of Rs 16.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The launch, which took place on October 17, 2026, adds a third powertrain option to the SUV that returned to India earlier this year in its second generation.

The Duster Hybrid, badged E-Tech 160, becomes Renault’s first E-Tech model in India under the company’s futuREady roadmap. Renault claims an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 29 kmpl — a headline figure aimed squarely at mileage-conscious Indian buyers.

Price and variants

The Duster Hybrid is offered in three trims. The Evolution starts at Rs 16.99 lakh, the mid-spec Techno is priced at Rs 18.99 lakh, and the top-spec Emotion goes up to Rs 19.49 lakh (all ex-showroom). The prices are introductory and applicable on bookings made until December 31, 2026, with dual-tone paint available for an extra Rs 20,000.

The hybrid sits alongside the existing 1.0-litre turbo-petrol (starting Rs 10.49 lakh) and the 1.3-litre turbo-petrol mild-hybrid variants in the Duster range, and at its entry price it goes directly up against the strong-hybrid versions of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki Victoris and Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder.

Powertrain: 1.8-litre strong hybrid

The E-Tech 160 system pairs a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors and a 1.4 kWh battery pack. One motor acts as a generator while the second produces power for the wheels, and the combined system output stands at 160 PS.

As a strong hybrid, there is no provision for external charging — the battery is replenished through the engine and regenerative braking while the vehicle is driven. Power is delivered through a multi-mode automatic transmission that manages the interaction between the petrol engine and the electric motors, and the system can run on electric power, petrol, or a combination of both depending on driving conditions. Renault says the hybrid system can operate in electric mode for up to 80 per cent of typical city driving, and claims the system was developed using the company’s hybrid technology experience and learnings from Formula 1.

Features across the range

The base Evolution trim is generously equipped: LED headlamps and DRLs, 18-inch wheels, dual-zone automatic climate control with rear vents, a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a 7-inch TFT driver display, wireless phone charging, a six-speaker audio system, keyless entry with push-button start, cruise control, electronic parking brake with auto-hold, ESP, hill-start assist, TPMS, rear parking sensors and a rear-view camera.

Higher trims add more premium equipment. The top-spec Emotion trim gets ventilated and electrically adjustable front seats and a dune brown interior theme, according to carandbike’s variant breakdown. Renault is also offering the Protect 360 ownership package from Rs 89,900, which bundles three years of comprehensive insurance, three years of scheduled maintenance and a three-year assured resale value.

Bookings and deliveries

Bookings opened ahead of the launch at Rs 21,000 through the Renault India website and authorised dealerships. Deliveries are scheduled to begin on November 6, just ahead of Diwali, with R-Pass holders getting priority deliveries.

Demand appears strong: Renault has indicated that the Duster Hybrid is sold out for the current calendar year, with a significant share of pre-bookings coming from metro cities — a sign that urban buyers are increasingly prioritising fuel efficiency in the mid-size SUV segment.

Why it matters

The Duster name carries strong equity in India from the first-generation model’s run, and Renault’s comeback strategy leans on it heavily. By pricing the hybrid from Rs 16.99 lakh, Renault undercuts the expected price band for strong-hybrid mid-size SUVs while offering a larger battery (1.4 kWh against the Grand Vitara’s 0.76 kWh) and 160 PS of combined output — positioning the E-Tech 160 as the performance-and-mileage alternative in a segment where the Grand Vitara and Hyryder have long had the hybrid space to themselves.
